Heavy duty flat cars are designed for transporting heavy and/or oversize loads such as machinery, construction equipment, and many other items that require capacities beyond a standard flat car. One of the main advantages of the depressed center flat car is that it allows for the transportation of oversize loads (in height) that would not be able to clear bridges, tunnels, etc. on a standard flat car.
